Let Passion Drive The Process
“The best in art and life comes from a center – something urgent and powerful, an idea or emotion that insists on its being. From that insistence, a shape emerges and creates its structure out of passion. If you begin with a structure, you have to make up the passion, and that’s very hard to do.”
- Roger Rosenblatt
It should be easy to manifest something we’re passionate about right? Not always so–especially if we begin from a history of “reality-based” influences that suffocate new ideas with the constraints of structure and boundaries before anything good can come of the budding possibility.
How many times have you seen a good idea get squashed by a committee? Seen a child’s dream get pummeled by his peers? Observed a hopeful relationship destroyed by prejudices and stereotypes? We humans like our walls and systems and politics that buffer us from the passions that create an unusual state of fear in many who have lost touch with the soul.
Yet passion has driven every innovation in history. Passion drove inventors to defy the church, to dream of a round planet, to imagine talking over wires and then invisibly by radio waves. Passion pushed men to run miles in under 4 minutes and to create flying machines.
So can passion drive you to change the world? Maybe that’s too huge an undertaking for you to ponder..but maybe passion can drive you to change YOUR world? What urge has bubbled up inside of your soul? What need have you identified and walked away from? What act of compassion have you denied yourself because it doesn’t pay enough? Please reconsider your path. Consider a detour towards your passion–that idea or emotion that “insists on being.”
Allow it to drive you somewhere you’ve never been before.
